Winchester pilgrimage - May 2019
In May 2019 members of the church will join in a pilgrimage to Winchester. The walk will provide some healthy exercise and the opportunity to get to know others. Through sponsorship we will also raise financial support of our church mission partners, Andrew and Clare Koens and their family working with Wycliffe Bible Translators in Papua New Guinea.
Why Winchester? There are historical links with Winchester that predate the creation of Guildford diocese, but with the Pilgrims Way passing through Guildford there is well-established pilgrimage route close by our parish. The walk will allow us to share something of that early pilgrimage experience. The Pilgrim’s Way web site has a verse that describes that experience:
We are pilgrims on a journey, we’re companions on the road;
we are here to help each other walk the mile and bear the load.
The walk will take three days from Friday, May 3rd, arriving in Winchester on the afternoon of Sunday, May 5th, in time to attend the afternoon service at the Cathedral. Please do consider joining us, even if you can manage just one or two days. The full itinerary for each day will be added to the website, including travel arrangements for the start and end of each day.
Sponsorship forms will be available in church from early April.
