St. Francis Hospital, Katete.

What We Do

What We Do

We were sorry that, after she had successfully organised the Sponsored Walk for St. Francis Hospital Katete in May, Liz Payne found that she had too many family and other Church commitments  to continue to serve on this committee. She made a significant and much appreciated contribution during her time and we miss her positive and cheerful approach. Thank you, Liz. You would be welcome back any time.

The sponsored walk was to Winkworth Arboretum, with a local walk there for the less energetic. It was well supported and it was good that we were able to send £1,529 to the Hospital. A further £300 at least will follow shortly when we have the Gift Aid Tax refund for the 2009 walk.

Jean Reed was the organiser for the “Worshippers’ Wander” around the houses and gardens of the families who kindly made their properties available. In a wet summer, we chose a fine day. So it was a most enjoyable event, enhanced by Choral Evensong in Church followed by a summer’s evening in the Vicarage Garden, accompanied by suitable refreshments. £520 was raised. Many thanks to those who provided venues and served drinks and food, as well to all those who supported the day.

Members of the Committee gave assistance at the Christian Aid money count and at Harvest Time, the Barn Dance raising £330.

The parish allocated £4,000 for disbursement, which was distributed as follows:

To USPG/CMS £660

To Mothers’ Union Worldwide £665

To The Barn Youth Project £670

To The Bishop of Guildford’s Foundation £670

To The Church Urban Fund £670 and

To Ethiopiaid (for the Fistula Hospital) £665

We hope to give details shortly of activities planned and organisations to be supported in 2010.
