A visitor to All Saints’ |
A hugely positive and uplifting experience is how I would describe my
experience of attending All Saints Church on 7th October. My name is
David Halpin, I am a Catholic Priest from Ireland. I was in Guildford
visiting some friends and their 1 year old child, Edward, whom I am
lucky enough to be Godfather to. We attended the family service which
I believe is on once a month. I was very impressed with the amount of
work and preparation that the organising team put into this service. The
rapport the presenters had with the children was touching. The teaching,
while very simple and age appropriate, also contained nuggets of wisdom
to feed the soul of all age groups in attendance. I must say I was
wondering where it was going to go when I saw the child being wheeled
out bandaged up as a mummy. St. Paul may not have put it exactly that
way but the point was put across well that every part of the body is necessary.
The visuals of the dancing skeletons on the screen turning into
full bodies as we sang ‘Dem bones, dem bones, dem dry bones’ for me
put a new and fun twist on Ezekiel’s vision. The singing was uplifting
and the children were allowed to be children and although it was unconventional,
God was worshipped and I imagine was smiling along. I
thank you for the welcome and I wish the community all God’s blessing
